Get Involved.

There are so many ways to help that don’t involve fostering! While I highly recommend fostering a pet, if you are unable to, there are plenty of ways that you can help animals in need.

  • A lot of shelters, humane societies, and rescues have a program that allows citizens to “check out” a dog for the day, or even the weekend. This allows the dog to get out of the shelter environment, get some love from people, and decompress for a little bit. It also is a huge help to shelters because it allows them to get a better understanding of the dog’s temperament and personality (based on your report) outside of the shelter - which can increase their chances of finding a forever home! Contact your local shelters to see if this program is available!

  • Most shelters — especially those that are at/over capacity — are understaffed and are in urgent need of extra hands. By volunteering at a shelter, you are able to participate in a number of tasks that helps the shelter run a little more smoothly. You are also able to take dogs out of their kennels for some play time and can spend time with the cats.

  • Shelters can never have too much food or supplies. By donating dog/cat food, blankets, toys, cat litter, etc. you are helping with the cost of these essentials so that shelters can invest time and money into other areas in their facility.
