Get Involved.
There are so many ways to help that don’t involve fostering! While I highly recommend fostering a pet, if you are unable to, there are plenty of ways that you can help animals in need.

A lot of shelters, humane societies, and rescues have a program that allows citizens to “check out” a dog for the day, or even the weekend. This allows the dog to get out of the shelter environment, get some love from people, and decompress for a little bit. It also is a huge help to shelters because it allows them to get a better understanding of the dog’s temperament and personality (based on your report) outside of the shelter - which can increase their chances of finding a forever home! Contact your local shelters to see if this program is available!

Most shelters — especially those that are at/over capacity — are understaffed and are in urgent need of extra hands. By volunteering at a shelter, you are able to participate in a number of tasks that helps the shelter run a little more smoothly. You are also able to take dogs out of their kennels for some play time and can spend time with the cats.

Shelters can never have too much food or supplies. By donating dog/cat food, blankets, toys, cat litter, etc. you are helping with the cost of these essentials so that shelters can invest time and money into other areas in their facility.
